Client Objectives
Prior to partnering with Green Element, Bloc Blinds had already taken steps to improve its environmental impact. Bloc Blinds had started implementing an environmental management system process and put in place various sustainability initiatives. However, they wanted to gain a clearer understanding of their environmental impact.
Bloc Blinds partnered with Green Element to undergo a Sustainability Strategy and Impact Assessment; a bespoke service in which your data, processes, and circumstances are evaluated to produce recommendations and suggested next steps for your sustainability journey.
Through this service, Green Element helped Bloc Blinds to identify the best opportunities for improvement, plan the next steps of their sustainability journey, and engage staff at all levels in the process.
Business Challenges
Increasing material and operational costs had an impact on Bloc Blind’s environmental journey. Having the resources available for ongoing improvements in sustainability was a challenge, but one Bloc Blinds wanted to address and overcome. For Bloc Blinds, receiving recommendations from Green Element important from both a business management and financial planning perspective.
Green Element Approach
worked with Environmental Consultants Alex Cronin and Madeleine Woods to guide Bloc Blinds through the Sustainability Strategy and Impact Assessment process.
First, a carbon footprint was prepared to report on emissions from Scopes 1 and 2, together with some Scope 3 categories, using the Compare Your Footprint ™ service. This allowed the Green Element team to identify emission hotspots.
The Green Element team was then able to gain a clearer understanding of the business through document and process reviews, surveys and interviews, and employee engagement activities.
As a result, tailored solutions and recommendations for Bloc Blinds were provided by our team, clearly identifying the appropriate next steps for their sustainability journey. The process and benefits of using a science-based targets approach for emissions reduction planning were also explained.
The outcomes of the Sustainability Strategy and Impact Assessment were discussed with the Bloc Blinds team and then shared in a comprehensive report, with the addition of survey and engagement activity resources and feedback for future reference.
Client Benefits
The process generated energy and enthusiasm across the business and has helped Bloc Blinds to identify and prioritise the next steps to take. This includes further detailed work on its carbon footprint measurement, enabling Bloc Blinds to further understand its impact and establish a baseline for improvement. This will also help Bloc Blinds in establishing an emissions reduction strategy in preparation for setting Science-Based Targets.
At the 6-month follow-up session (included in the Assessment), Bloc Blinds reported that the process had also prompted plans and discussions in the following areas:
- Selection criteria to ensure sustainable practices in their supply chain
- Changes made to achieve plastic-free product packaging
- Improved waste management processes with further segregation of waste streams to promote recycling
- Onsite renewable energy production
- Phased electrification of the transport fleet
