Due to COVID-19 there have been temporary waste regulation changes announced by the Environment agency (EA), Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and Natural Resources Wales (NRW) which are some of the regulatory bodies for the UK.

The Environmental Protection (Plastic Straws, Cotton Buds and Stirrers) (England) Regulations 2020 stems the supply of single-use plastic straws, cotton buds and stirrers across England in order to protect the environment and prevent harm to animals. For example, the legislation makes it an offense to supply to an end user a straw separately to their drink unless a variety of other conditions are met.
