There have been no major changes in what we consider pertinent environmental legislation, although this will almost certainly change following the nations decision the last month. For now, there have been changes under an EU Directive that we have noted. This is the End-of-Life Vehicles Directive 2000/53/EC on the use of lead, mercury, cadmium or hexavalent chromium in materials and components of vehicles. The are some exemptions which are listed in Annex II of the Directive.
Again this is not a key change and will not affect most industries but as an environmental consultancy, we are quite pleased with this one. In light of the Volkswagen air emissions scandal there has been new EU legislation brought in for vehicle manufactures. The new regulations establishes requirements for Real Driving Emissions (RDE) testing which differentiates between emissions during normal driving conditions and previous testing conditions. It will require previous testing to be resubmitted by vehicle manufactures for European Commission type approval.
