This month a couple of legislative changes are being observed. The first is regarding The Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Scheme (Withdrawal Agreement) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020. This piece of law has been altered so that when the UK leaves the EU the trading system remains in place. This is applicable to those who generate electricity. The legilsation states that operators must adhere to the 2012 regulation in reference to the control of greenhouse gas emissions.
The second legislation update this month is in reference to The Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2020. This also has been changed to align with the UK leaving the EU. Recycling targets have now been paced on producers. The targets are bespoke to the type of material being looked at. For example, there are different targets for paper, glass and wood.
