This month the following pieces of legislation have been changed or altered:
The Climate Change (Interim Emissions Targets) (Amendment) Regulations 2021
The regulations covered here relate to the reduction of greenhouse gases emissions associated with Wales, and require Welsh Ministers to meet certain reduction targets. Section 29 stipulates that Welsh net emissions must be at least 100% below the set baseline by 2050. Section 30 concentrates on interim targets for Wales to meet by 2020, 2030 and 2040 in order to reach the greater target.
Regulation 2 has amended these interim targets from those set out in the Climate Change (Interim Emissions Targets) (Wales) Regulations 2018. The new interim targets are:
The Environment (Wales) Act 2016 (Amendment of 2050 Emissions Target) Regulations 2021
These regulations are an amendment to Section 29 of The Environment (Wales) Act 2016 and are purposed at imposing a duty on the Welsh Minister to meet a greenhouse gas emissions reduction of 80% lower than the baseline set. This amendment has served to increase the minimum percentage from 80% to 100% lower than the baseline for greenhouse gas emissions reductions.
