Charity Diaries December 2018

This was my final day of volunteering for the year at Share Nurseries, a social enterprise of Share Community within the grounds of Springfield University Hospital in South London. Because of the weather and construction on the grounds, we mostly spent the day in the indoor space, planting bulbs of daffodils, alliums and other flowers. These, like many other varieties of plants, herbs and vegetables in the garden will then be sold at the nursery shop operated by the Share students and staff.

For an hour during the middle of the day we had a great session of sports with Omar from Disability Sports Coach where everyone played a modified version of team table tennis. It was great to see everyone getting involved with a great mix of competitiveness and sportsmanship.

I always enjoy spending time with the students, staff and volunteers at Share and can’t wait to go back. I highly recommend visiting the garden and browsing the large selection of indoor and outdoor plants they have available which all help a great organisation.
