We have so many standards now floating around the environmental ether…. Which standard should we go for and how do each of them stand up to each other. What is the difference between a BS EN and ISO? Is the former more internationally accreditable than the latter? Is the former easier than the latter to attain? Who should we use as a certification body? Does it really matter if we use a UKAS accredited certification body? Are some auditing firms more proficient than others? This part of the environmental industry is incredible confusing. Over the next few months I will look at tackling some of these questions and try and answer them for you. I have been now working on environmental standards for over 10 years and am sometimes as confused as the client! Of course whatever anyone says is subjective and you as the client need to have some form of objectivity. We shall try and help decipher this environmental mumbo jumbo.
