Split Ticketing..... What is it and how do I save LOADS of money on Trains........

The most environmental way to travel is by train as a rule of thumb. Why would you though, I hear cries of how expensive the trains are….. We have written a short guide on how to buy a cheap ticket and save lots of money. We request that in return you travel by train? One thing I would ask is; why is the UK system so complicated!!!

Buy your ticket in advance

If you have to buy your ticket on the day or the day before, advance tickets are still available on a number of websites. The following is a list of at what point the advance ticket becomes ‘non advance’!

You can buy advance tickets up to 18:00 the night before on the following websites or through their app: East Midlands Rail - First Great Western - Scot Rail -

You can buy advance tickets up to midnight the night before on the following websites or through their app: East Coast Virgin Trains

You can buy advance tickets up to 15 minutes before on the following websites or through their app: Cross Country

Use the following websites: Split Your Ticket, Split Ticketing. There are apps and other websites out there.

We used the following website for displaying the SAVINGS - Split Your Ticket We went through our website of choice for buying tickets. We use this website as it is the easiest to use and understand; TheTrainLine

We bought a ticket from London St Pancreas to Sheffield next Wednesday 02 July 2014. We wrote this article at 14:00 on the 27 June 2014. If you buy a ticket straight from London St Pancreas to Sheffield at 0545 the cost would be £186.00. If you buy a ticket using Split Ticketing from London St Pancreas to Sheffield at 0545 the cost would be £103.80 A saving of £82.20!!

Sometimes using different websites also helps. Red Spotted Hanky is not great at being user friendly but you can save on booking fees, and they also come out with offers.
