Project: Conducting a Waste Audit.

It is a common misconception that a business's responsibility for their waste ends when the waste contractor takes the waste away. Your company is responsible for your waste from transportation to final disposal. You needs to ensure that the company taking and handling the waste and the final waste facility all have the relevant permits. Waste is an issue that has to be taken very seriously. The waste regulations are due to be changing and this report will help the transition.

Objectives:

  • Verify waste is stored legally and safely
  • Understand the current legislation
  • Ensure the correct permits, season tickets and documentation are in place
  • Make sure the hazardous waste is dealt properly
  • Have consultaions that their is no chance of any fines or imprsonment for top management

Approach and Deliverables:

  • The waste audit will be implemented on-site;
    • Measured
    • Separated
    • Weighed
  • The waste audit will need an approximate 10sq ft area, for a full week.

Results and Business Benefits:

  • Cost savings through knowing number of bins needed.
  • Understanding the current waste requirements
  • Able to tender for a more efficient waste contractor.
  • Able to cut waste with knowledge of where these reductions are.
  • The waste audit will enable DDB as an organisation to understand the exact quantities of the waste, facilitating a knowledge that will help DDB reduce, re-use and recycle their waste inline with the key steps of an environmental management system.
  • Reducing liability and reducing the potential for environmental fines
  • Ensuring compliance with legislation
